LIMPOPO CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWCASES THE PROVINCE’S GOLF AND LEISURE TOURISM OFFERING

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) congratulates Kyle Barker on winning the 2026 Limpopo Championship, held at Euphoria Golf & Lifestyle Estate in the Waterberg from 1 to 4 October 2026. Barker secured victory following a playoff against Cole Stevens, claiming his third Sunshine Tour title.

The championship was attended by the Premier of Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba. Her attendance highlighted the significance of sporting events in raising the province’s profile and supporting tourism development.

The Limpopo Championship provides a strategic platform to showcase the province’s golfing facilities, hospitality and visitor experiences. It connects professional sport with destination promotion, presenting Limpopo to players, spectators and wider media audiences.

As part of the destination marketing activities undertaken alongside the championship, LTA hosted media representatives to cover the tournament and experience the Waterberg’s broader tourism offering. On Saturday, 3 October, the media participated in an elephant interaction experience at Adventures with Elephants in Bela-Bela and a zipline activity at Thaba Monate Game Lodge.

On Sunday, 4 October, LTA’s Deputy Chairperson and Chief Marketing Officer joined the hosted media for strawberry picking at Leeuwenhof Country Lodge and Garden Spa, a sister lodge to Euphoria. The visit showcased an additional leisure experience available to visitors in the area.

These activities formed part of LTA’s efforts to promote travel experiences that complement golf tourism and encourage visitors to explore beyond the tournament venue. By introducing media representatives to local attractions, the Agency supported coverage of both the championship and the diversity of the surrounding destination.

Sporting events create opportunities for accommodation establishments, transport operators, restaurants, attractions and other service providers to benefit from visitor demand. Combining tournament attendance with leisure activities can encourage extended stays and spread tourism spending across more businesses.

The Waterberg’s combination of golf, wildlife, adventure and countryside experiences strengthens its appeal to a range of visitors. The championship and accompanying media programme provided an opportunity to demonstrate how these offerings can be incorporated into a single visit.

LTA acknowledges the Sunshine Tour, Euphoria Golf & Lifestyle Estate, sponsors, participating players and all stakeholders who contributed to the championship. The Agency also thanks the hosted media and participating tourism establishments for their contribution to showcasing Limpopo.

LTA remains committed to working with sporting and tourism partners to strengthen destination awareness, grow visitor demand and expand opportunities within the provincial tourism economy.

We Are Limpopo. Go Limpopo.
