PREMIER RAMATHUBA LAUNCHES THE 2026 LIMPOPO CHAMPIONSHIP

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba officially launched the eighth annual Limpopo Championship Golf Tournament at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane on the 9 September 2026.

The media launch was addressed by Premier Ramathuba and the Chairperson of the Limpopo Tourism Agency Board, Mr Freddy Greaver. It was also attended by representatives of the Sunshine Tour, Limpopo Championship organisers, tourism stakeholders and members of the media.

Hosted by the Limpopo Tourism Agency in partnership with the Sunshine Tour, the 2026 Limpopo Championship will take place at Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate from 1 to 4 October 2026. The main tournament will be preceded by an official Pro-Am event on 30 September 2026.

Mr Greaver highlighted the continued growth of the Championship and the importance of LTA’s partnership with the Sunshine Tour in positioning Limpopo as a leading golf-tourism destination.

He also outlined the province’s broader programme of tourism events, which seeks to showcase Limpopo’s diverse tourism offering while creating opportunities for emerging enterprises, advancing transformation and promoting inclusive growth within the tourism sector.

Premier Ramathuba described Limpopo as an authentic and diverse destination offering exceptional golf courses, wildlife experiences, cultural heritage and remarkable natural landscapes.

She emphasised that the Championship extends beyond sport, as it attracts professional golfers, officials, sponsors, spectators and families whose presence supports accommodation establishments, transport operators, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses.

The Premier reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to using major events and local venues to stimulate economic activity, support employment creation and strengthen Limpopo’s profile as a competitive sports-tourism destination.

The Championship is projected to attract approximately 5,000 visitors, create about 110 temporary employment opportunities and generate an estimated R25 million in economic activity. Local businesses are also expected to benefit from procurement opportunities in accommodation, catering, transportation, logistics, entertainment, photography and related services.

A Sustainability Village will form part of the Championship programme on 3 and 4 October 2026, providing a platform for local businesses, tourism establishments, entrepreneurs and community organisations to showcase their products, services and sustainability initiatives.

Through the Limpopo Championship, the province will showcase its ability to host major sporting events while offering visitors memorable experiences across wildlife, culture, adventure, hospitality, food, heritage and leisure.

Visitors attending the Championship are encouraged to extend their stay and explore the province’s diverse attractions and experiences.
