The Berry Festival

per person

The scenic province of Limpopo will burst into life for the annual Magoebaskloof Berry Festival. This popular festival, which is a hit amongst young and old alike, is hosted by the little town of Haenertsburg. This charming little village, situated en route to the Kruger National Park, is known for its mountains and hills, and the misty blankets that roll across them.

The Magoebaskloof Berry Festival is focussed on health and well-being. For this reason, there will be plenty in the way of organic and environmentally responsible products. Browse the stalls and sample some of the many berries and berry products. Visit the organic cheese dairy farm and watch as the cheeses are lovingly produced according to tradition (complete with hand-milked cows and copper cauldrons) to achieve the best flavours and varieties. Enjoy cooking demos and competitions for both the adults and the little ones. Experience a working worm farm; pick your own berries; or visit the resident chickens, ducks and geese with the little ones.

In addition, stalls will showcase an array of homemade pickles, preserves, cakes, arts and crafts; ensuring that the whole family is kept busy. Look out for pre-loved goods, books, plants and other knick-knacks too.

In keeping with the theme, there will be a number of outdoor activities; including the fun-run for the family and the Berry Festival Trail Run. The latter is slightly more challenging (although even those who are not avid runners should manage it), and takes runners through the exquisite countryside to enjoy the gorgeous forests and the endless rolling hills of the Blueberry Heights Farm.

This event certainly boasts no shortage of things to do and see, all within lovely surrounds. It is a must for families and travellers making their way around Limpopo. While you are here, visit the village and its many restaurants and pubs, or make a holiday of it and head on to the world-famous Kruger National Park.

To avoid disappointment it is advisable to book your accommodation well in advance for this event. Visit the Haenertsburg Accommodation pages to find guest houses, hotels and self catering places to stay and for additional info about Haenertsburg which includes attractions, restaurants and things to do, see Haenertsburg Info.
